a sense of place

this picture is a very balanced one. the amount of things in the front of the room balances out with the size of the foot of the bed. the earthy tones that are used make it seem as if it was a room of an adult. the closed window make a it a dark room and the cool colors of the left side of the room balance out those warm colors of the right side. it seems like a quiet safe environment that one might want to be in unlike the one below the looks as if the woman doesn't wan to be there.

the mood of this painting is gloomy and sad. the way that the woman is position make it seems as if she id thinking. the expression on her face doesn't seem likes she;s happy. the room is very simple. the cool colors of the bed and the empty walls make it seem lonely. the one window creates a highlight on the empty wall bringing more attention to its emptiness, and the dark colors used in the room just brings the sad lonely mood.

nighthawks by edward hopper

i chose the painting nighthawks by Edward hopper. it is a painting of a corner of a city to the right of the painting there is diner with 4 people in it. one man sits alone while there is one man in white that serves them because he is behind the counter. and the two other people sit to the left of the man who sits alone. the woman a well dressed red head seems to be ignoring the man that she is with.

i thank this painting is interesting because its unusual, the painting is no really symmetrical and t brings the attention to where the diner is not only because it is the biggest part of the painting but also because it is the part that is in the light. i like that there is so much detail in the painting for example, the people are so detailed and placed in such a way that one can come up with their story for the painting.

Morandi vs. Van Gogh

the difference between the 2 artists choice of palette is that Van Gogh, chose more bright lively colors, he chose those colors because of the subject matter. Van Gogh chose to do flowers which he put in major detail. while Morandi chose to use more neutral colors. Morandi chose to use pale and dull colors because his subject matter has less details and was more simple.
