creating the illusion of surface and texture

to create the illusion of texture theses artist used highlights and shadows right next to each other. they also blend the colors well, when the bush is dry the colors can be mixed subtly while be able to layer the paints so that is doesn't really look like just an ordinary painting. the details that Willem Claesz Heda uses in his painting makes the painting so realistic. uses really bright highlights for the metal makes it look really realistic which adds the illusion of texture.

Still Life With Three Puppies, by Paul Gaughin, 1888
i think this one is the most interesting because it is called a still life but its not actually still. you can see the motion in what the puppies are drinking. it is also interesting because it is not just fruit but it also includes man made objects. the picture is pretty balanced it has 3 puppies and 3 cups and that balances out the picture.

studies in smallmess: my set ups

Morandi vs. Van Gogh

the difference between the 2 artists choice of palette is that Van Gogh, chose more bright lively colors, he chose those colors because of the subject matter. Van Gogh chose to do flowers which he put in major detail. while Morandi chose to use more neutral colors. Morandi chose to use pale and dull colors because his subject matter has less details and was more simple.

what i know

-the primary colors are red yellow and blue
-he secondary colors are orange green and purple
-you create secondary colors by mixing together the primary colors
-complimentary colors are the colors that are opposite from each other in the color wheel
-two ways to emphasize something is by varying the size or the location
-to create a shadow you mix the color of the object that you painted and complimentary color of the object
-to create the illusion of a highlight you would make the color of the object lighter
-if i wanted to make something look like it was far away i would make it smaller, and the colors would be cooler and and it would be lighter than the rest of the painting
- the steps to building a painting are sketching what you want, then you mix colors to start to get the colors that are needed. you can also add shadows and highlights

a painting i remember

a painting that i remember is one that is in my dining room. it is a big picture of a flowers that are in vase. each of theses flowers are very detailed and each of them look alike but at the same time they are all very different. i remember it because i see it everyday

my skills as an artist

my skills as a artist are that i can focus on small details. i like to work with small projects and that allows me to focus and work on the details of the project. another strength is that i am able to concentrate easily and tunes out noise. another strength is that i can mix colors well so that i can create the new colors that i need.
