to create the illusion of texture theses artist used highlights and shadows right next to each other. they also blend the colors well, when the bush is dry the colors can be mixed subtly while be able to layer the paints so that is doesn't really look like just an ordinary painting. the details that Willem Claesz Heda uses in his painting makes the painting so realistic. uses really bright highlights for the metal makes it look really realistic which adds the illusion of texture.
